Leganes 1 Getafe 1 - La Liga Week 15 (7th December 2018)

Leganes and Getafe drew 1-1 in an entertaining derby at Butarque on Friday evening, which leaves both teams with their good form in tact: Lega are now unbeaten in their last five league games (seven in all competitions), Los Azulones are undefeated in seven league games away from home (eight matches including Copa Del Rey).

Mauricio Pellegrino was without a number of first team players including Rodrigo Tarin, Recio and Ezequiel Munoz. Jonathan Silva was suspended and Pellegrino had left Raul Garcia out of the squad. He selected Gerard Gumbau to play left wing back - a new position for the former Barcelona midfielder. Allan Nyom, making his fifth start of the season, played right wing back. Lega kept their 5-3-2 shape that Pellegrino has been utilising.

Getafe played 4-4-2 as expected. The only change from Pepe Bordalas was Leandro Cabrera at left back instead of Vitorino Antunes who had scored in the win against Espanyol the week before.

The game began at a frenetic place: Nyom struck at goal, Youssef En Nesyri headed wide, and Jaime Mata was denied by Ivan Cuellar. Mauro Arambarri then fizzed one wide from distance and Guido Carrillo had two headed chances that he was unable to take.

Getafe winger Amath Ndiaye picked up a knee injury and was replaced by Francisco Portillo.

Six minutes before half time two Uruguayans combined to give the visitors the lead, with their first set piece goal of the season: Damian Suarez delivered his free kick onto the head of Cabrera who headed it through the legs of Cuellar.

The first half had been largely even with both sides threatening to score.

In the second half Leganes came out with so much energy and positive determination to equalise. Getafe dropped deeper and deeper and switched from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 with Mata playing left wing and Portillo just off Jorge Molina in attack.

There was a flurry of chances for the home team - Oscar Rodriguez with two shots either side of Dimitris Siovas stabbing wide at the far post.

Eventually they broke through when En Nesyri knocked the ball back for Nyom who took two clinical touches in the box to rifle the ball beyond Soria at the near post.

Bordalas sent Sebastian Cristoforo on for Arambarri which was a straight swap (midfielder for midfielder). Then he brought on Antunes for Portillo - indicating he was trying to protect the point.

Pellegrino brought on Juanfran for Nyom at right wing back, and Juanfran got forward regularly as Lega went for the win. Another substitute - Nabil El Zhar, who'd replaced Oscar - shot from distance in the 91st minute and forced a good save form Soria.

Moments later Ruben Perez was sent off for a high foot on Cristiforo, Leganes finished with 10 players.

Neither side could find a winner in what was a really entertaining game. Getafe have now not lost against Lega in their last five league games.

Both teams can take the positives from this match in terms of result. Leganes were slightly the better team and can consider themselves unlucky not to have beaten Getafe in the top flight for the first time ever.
