Getafe 3 Real Betis 0 - La Liga Week 4 (29th September 2020)

Getafe moved to the top of La Liga Santander with a dominant 3-0 victory at home to Real Betis on Tuesday night.

The hosts struck three goals before half time: two from Angel Rodriguez and a stunner from Marc Cucurella, and are yet to concede this season. Betis, who lost for the second match running, had captain Aissa Mandi sent off late on after he picked up two yellow cards within 47 seconds.

Jose Bordalas made one change to his starting line up, resting Jaime Mata and going with Angel Rodriguez in attack. It was an inspired decision - The 33 year old linked excellently with strike partner Cucho Hernandez and was clinical with his finishing.

Getafe’s strong, imposing game proved too much for Betis who could not cope with the intensity of the home team’s press. After Mauro Arambarri had won possession, Cucurella, Cucho and Allan Nyon combined to tee up Angel for an acrobatic volley to open the scoring on 15 minutes.

The next goal came after Damian Suarez won possession high up the pitch. When Cucho squared the ball to Cucurella there appeared to be little danger, but the former Barcelona man ghosted beyond Marc Bartra before unleashing a right foot bullet beyond Joel Robles from 25 yards. It was truly spectacular, from a player were put in a colossal performance.

Three minutes later William Carvahlo’s weak pass enabled Cucho to feed Angel for his second goal, rifled beyond Robles at the near post.

With Emerson suspended and Martin Montoya in Covid-enforced isolation, Betis played with Bartra at right back. They reverted from 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-2 at half time, replacing Guido Rodriguez with Borja Iglesias, but they found scant reward as Getafe defended resiliently and worked tirelessly.

Late on visiting captain Aissa Mandi saw red to cap a miserable evening for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. As for Getafe, they’re yet to concede in three matches, and climb to the top of the table with seven points. They face Real Sociedad away next, then Barcelona at home.
